I apologize for the lack of recent posts, but even though blogging was put on hold during my track out GOTR was going strong! We've been talking about some very important topics in our recent lessons, such as standing up to peer pressure, cooperation, values, and gratitude. We even spent some time learning about the importance of relaxation! Be sure to talk with your girls about "SBLR," the strategy we learned yesterday to stand up to peer pressure: Stop, Breathe, Listen, Respond! We are really trying to work on choosing positive friends and being part of a team!
IMPORTANT: we WILL be meeting tomorrow on Halloween! We will finish promptly and have the girls outside by 5:15 so you can make it to any other activities you may have planned :) We have also asked that the girls let us know who their running buddy will be for the Reindeer Romp on December 15th. This person must be 18 or older, and can be a family member/friend, teacher, camp counselor, babysitter, etc. We are happy to help the girls find a running buddy if they need it! Finally, please mark your calendar for November 28th... we will be having our Mock 5K during our GOTR practice and we would LOVE to have you all come out and support the girls! More info to come!
GOTR at Banks Road Elementary works with third, fourth, and fifth grade girls to build character and positive self-esteem through a fun combination of running, teamwork, goal setting, and community service. |

Coach Updates!
Coaches and girls alike, we've been having a great time at GOTR! This week we spent time learning how to be healthy. This included both having healthy bodies and healthy emotions. We had a great discussion on healthy eating on Monday, the girls are really interested in how to make good choices about what they eat! On Wednesday we focused on being healthy emotionally, and how it's okay to feel a range of emotions... the key is to know how to deal with them. Next week we'll be learning about gratitude, and the girls will be spending some time in personal reflection as they learn about centering!
*Make sure you don't miss our first post by one of our Banks GOTR team members! This will be a regular feature on our blog!

We had a GREAT first week of GOTR! The girls had lots of fun getting to know each other in our first two practices as we talked, laughed, played games, and started running! This week our activities focused on building up our team as we learned more about each other, and on being positive and celebrating ourselves. Make sure to ask your girls about how to plug into the positive Girls on the Run cord!

Well, the time has finally come and we are SO EXCITED!! GOTR begins on Monday! If you haven't spoken to one of the coaches already, please be expecting a coach phone call just to go over the details and answer any questions you may have. A few things you need to know for Monday:
- The girls need to be in the art room at 4:00 PM, ready for practice... they should arrive in or bring comfortable clothes and shoes for running (girls that are tracked in will have time to change between 3:45 and 4:00).
- If you would like to send a snack, please do so... these will not be provided!
- Pick-up will be at 5:15 in front of the school, near the office.
We are really looking forward to the season! We will be using this blog and email for updates, and don't hesitate to contact us with questions!
